A hamstring injury can be very painful and is common among those who frequently exercise in sports that use the leg muscles, such as jogging, cycling, and even team sports such as football or baseball. Also known as a hamstring strain, or a pulled hamstring, this injury affects the group of three muscles in the back of the thighs.
Symptoms of having an injury in this area usually consists of a sharp, shooting pain in the back of the legs. There may also be tenderness or bruising, and likely it will be very painful to walk on or continue to participate in the activity prior to pulling the muscles.
